The Emergency Medicine Training Program now accepts ten residents each year. Selection for interview is based on a number of factors, including academic and clinical performance. All PGY1 positions for the upcoming academic year for this program are selected through The National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). We do not offer pre-match positions.
Graduates from medical schools outside of the US and Canada must apply for residency through ERAS by contacting the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) and must be certified by ECFMG to qualify for admission. Information about certification and visa sponsorship, if required, is also available from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates.

Your interview is an opportunity for us to learn more about you including your career goals, your interests, your strengths, as well as areas where you’d like to grow and develop. It’s also a chance for you to learn more about our program and our faculty.
Applicants selected for an interview will be contacted via email regarding available dates and times. We utilize Interview Broker for interview scheduling. Interviews are offered on a rolling basis. We recommend checking Interview Broker regularly for openings and updates, as our schedule remains dynamic throughout the season.
Interview days occur at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, 110 Irving Street NW, Washington, D.C., 20010 (note that MedStar Washington Hospital Center is in Northwest D.C. about 5 miles from MedStar Georgetown University Hospital & the Georgetown University campus).
NOTE: All interviews will be conducted virtually for the 2020-2021 recruitment cycle
Our residents host a casual dinner for interviewees the evening before each scheduled interview day. Dinners will be held at one of two locations in Downtown, Washington, D.C. depending on the date. You will receive more detailed information from our team prior to your scheduled interview.
When considering a hotel, be aware that your interview day starts at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, a location not easily accessible by the Metro. However, we do validate parking at the hospital. If you choose to stay a night and do not have a rental car, we recommend staying in DuPont Circle, Foggy Bottom or Georgetown as taxis tend to be readily accessible from these areas. Some applicants stay in nearby Arlington, Virginia in the Rosslyn or Pentagon area as these hotels can be less expensive. Likewise, some choose to stay in the Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Maryland area as one does not have to cross a Potomac River bridge in the morning to get to the hospital.
