Opportunity begins at Georgetown University, a world class university whose medical school and hospital are central to a classic academic-tertiary care center. The Washington Hospital Center (WHC) experience compliments that of Georgetown as the largest hospital and busiest Emergency Department in the District of Columbia. WHC’s services include the busiest Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Hospital Based Aero-medical Transport System in the country. The MedStar Trauma/Burn Center at WHC is the busiest Level I Trauma Center in the District while our Obstetrical Service is responsible for 4,500 births annually. Together, these two institutions provide a dynamic learning environment that is diverse in the patient populations served and the environment in which the specialty of Emergency Medicine is practiced.
A first rate faculty representing over 28 different Emergency Medicine Training Programs provides a unique opportunity for residents to learn one-on-one in a high acuity environment with graduated responsibility. In the Nation’s Capital, the clinical experience offered by our program is only the beginning of the opportunities that you could experience. Policy, advocacy, emergency preparedness, medical education, critical care, research, and information technology are only a few of the myriad of choices available to the interested resident. Our curriculum has been designed to support your pursuit of these options during residency and beyond.
Medical education is an active, vibrant process! We strive to engage our residents in the process and to be innovative in our approach. I invite you to explore our website for a better understanding of what makes our program unique and the many opportunities available to the motivated resident.
