MedStar and Washington Hospital Center offer fellowship and other postgraduate training in emergency ultrasound and critical care. Additionally, the opportunity exists to advance in other other areas including toxicology, informatics, and pediatric emergency medicine.
The 3 + 1 Concept
In our program, emergency medicine residents complete residency training in three years. In the 3 + 1 program, graduates explore an area of expertise half time while working as an attending physician half time in the emergency department. This allows our residents to find and train in their chosen niche within emergency medicine, while at the same time not extending their residency training. Currently, this option is available with our Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship. The program is also expanding to incorporate other fellowships in sports medicine, administration, informatics and simulation. Interested applicants should contact Nancy Kenny, EM Residency Coordinator.
