Residents spend five months training in various critical care venues, including:
- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Northern Virginia, a major area referral center for subspecialty pediatric care, and pediatric trauma;
- Coronary Care Unit (CCU) at Washington Hospital Center, a home to one of the busiest cardiac catheterization labs in the country.
- Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at Georgetown University Hospital, a major regional referral center for hepatology, neurosurgery, and oncology.
- Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) at Washington Hospital Center, home to the busiest cardiothoracic surgery service in the region.
- Critical care experience at R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, Maryland’s principal trauma and critical care teaching site for physicians and other health professionals.
